The company is uniquely integrated, managing every step from their own tanneries to a global distribution network. ECCO operates a massive retail footprint with over 2,250 shops and sells products in 101 countries. Their digital infrastructure manages localized e-commerce subdomains for dozens of markets including the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands.

The Challenge

ECCO faced a “scalability crisis” with 20+ fragmented GTM containers managed separately. This created massive technical debt, 3-week delays for global pixel deployments, and inconsistent data across 101 countries. HQ lacked a unified “source of truth” to compare multi-market performance.

Our Approach

We implemented a “Hub-and-Spoke” architecture, consolidating all markets into a single Master GTM Container.

  1. Dynamic routing: Used lookup tables to automatically route data to the correct regional GA4 and Google Ads accounts based on the site’s hostname.
  2. Hybrid implementation: Deployed server-side GTM to ensure data durability against cookie restrictions and protect first-party data.
  3. Privacy-by-design: Integrated a “zero-trust” system using SHA-256 hashing for PII and strict blocking triggers for GDPR compliance.
  4. “Write once, deploy everywhere” operating model across all markets.
